Thank you for visiting my website!
My name is Wouter van Cleef, I’m a Dutch freelance journalist based in Tokyo, Japan. I work for various outlets, including:
- Trouw (Dutch national daily newspaper)
- De Tijd (Belgian-Flemish daily newspaper)
- RTL (Dutch TV station)
- Business News Radio | BNR (nationwide Dutch radio station)
I studied political science at Leiden University (the Netherlands), Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and did an internship at the Netherlands’ Prime Minister’s office Scientific Council for Government Policy.
After my graduation, I took part in the Dutch government sponsored Japan Prizewinners Programme. Apart from learning Japanese, I also spent 5 months at the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management, a training institute for a future generation of Japanese politicians.
Coming back to Holland, I worked at the Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law from 2008 until 2011.
Besides all things Japan, I also occasionally write on new developments in international law, cyberthreats and internet governance.
